About the Brewery
Yamawa Shuzo, located in Kami Town, Miyagi Prefecture, was founded in 1896 by Mr. Ihei Ito. Nestled at the foot of Mount Funagata on the border of Yamagata and Miyagi, the brewery has thrived for over 120 years in an environment blessed with pure air, abundant water, and fertile soil. Its brewing philosophy centers on the aesthetics of “simplicity”—creating timeless sake by valuing the basics while adding originality and craftsmanship without compromise. Using carefully selected sake rice, local water, and customized brewing equipment, the brewery crafts sake with a delicate balance designed to complement food. Its flagship label Yamawa, introduced in 2005, has earned prestigious awards including the Gold Prize at the Annual Japan Sake Awards and first place in the Junmai Daiginjo category at the SAKE COMPETITION, embodying the skills and spirit passed down through seven generations.
