About the Brewery

Kodama Jozo's history dates back to 1879, when founder Kumenosuke Kodama began brewing soy sauce and miso. In 1908, the company was reorganized into a company, and the following year, it established an Akita branch, establishing itself as Akita's leading soy sauce and miso brewer. In 1919, the company started a sake brewing business, developing the ``Taiheizan'' brand, which is named after a famous mountain in the region. In 1930, the country's first cold sake, Reirouta Hirayama, was released, and the following year it won first place at the National Liquor Competition, becoming widely known as a famous sake representative of Akita.
