Kodama Jozo's history dates back to 1879, when founder Kumenosuke Kodama began brewing soy sauce and miso. In 1908, the company was reorganized into a company, and the following year, it established an Akita branch, establishing itself as Akita's leading soy sauce and miso brewer. In 1919, the company started a sake brewing business, developing the ``Taiheizan'' brand, which is named after a famous mountain in the region.
