About the Brewery
Tonoike Sake Brewery was founded in 1937. The history of the Tonoike family dates back to 1829, when Omi merchants began brewing sake in Tochigi. The first generation, Mr. Itsugoro Tonoike, ran the family business in Utsunomiya City before moving to Mashiko and establishing Tonoike Sake Brewery. The brand name was originally ``Yachiyotsuru,'' but it was later changed to ``Sanran.'' Currently, the third generation, Mr. Shigeki Tonoike, is in charge of the business, and in addition to producing sake and shochu, the company also produces cosmetics. It has won many awards both domestically and internationally, is actively exporting overseas, and is a popular tourist brewery in Mashiko Town.
