About the Brewery
Nakano Sake Brewery was founded in 1874 and is located in Kitsuki, Oita Prefecture. Its flagship brand, Chiebijin, was named after Chie, the brewery’s first proprietress, and has been passed down for more than 150 years. At the heart of its brewing is Rokugo Manzan no Goryosui, mineral-rich natural water drawn from 200 meters beneath the brewery. Located at the foot of the Kunisaki Peninsula, an area recognized as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System, Nakano makes use of the region’s rich natural resources and primarily local ingredients in its commitment to locally rooted production. As the only remaining sake brewery in the historic castle town of Kitsuki, it embraces the philosophy that “sake brewing is about harmony and smiles,” continuing to make sake deeply connected to and loved by its community.
