About the Brewery
Kumazawa Sake Brewery was founded in 1872 and is located in Kagawa, Chigasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture. Faced with a business crisis, sixth-generation owner Shigeyoshi Kumazawa reexamined the brewery’s approach and created its flagship Tensei brand with the goal of making food-friendly sake loved by the local community. Returning to the brewery’s roots of making sake from local rice and water, Kumazawa is once again cultivating sake rice locally and working to preserve the area’s agriculture and rice-field landscapes for future generations. Under the motto “Drunkards enrich Japan,” the company has also expanded into Shonan Beer, restaurants, a bakery, and a gallery. Viewing the brewery as a place where people gather and food and culture flourish, Kumazawa continues to pursue sustainable brewing in partnership with its community.
