About the Brewery
Kikunosato Sake Brewery was founded in 1866 in the Nasunogahara area of Otawara, Tochigi Prefecture. Its founder, Toemon Akutsu, began brewing sake after digging a well in search of high-quality water. Blessed with abundant water resources, including the clear-flowing Naka River, and fertile land where rice has been cultivated since ancient times, the brewery works closely with local farmers to pursue high-quality sake rice. Today, eighth-generation owner Shin Akutsu leads the brewery. To rebuild the business during a difficult period, he launched its flagship brand, Daina, which has since earned recognition including a Gold Award at the Annual Japan Sake Awards. Rooted in the terroir of Nasu, the brewery continues to make local sake that complements food, brings people together, and can be enjoyed across generations.
