About the Brewery
Takachiho Shuzo was born in 1902 (Meiji 35) in Takachiho, Miyazaki, and has devoted itself solely to shochu-making in this place ever since. As a local Takachiho company, working with our community, we have developed region-born brands—Tsuyu-tsuyu 20%, Takachiho Aged Plum Wine, Hyuganatsu Mikan Wine, Hyuganatsu Mikan Sour—and expanded nationwide. In recent years, our sincere approach to shochu-making and high quality have been highly praised at global competitions such as ITI, Kura Master, and the Tokyo Whisky & Spirits Competition (TWSC), with multiple labels winning awards every year. In December 2024, Japan’s ‘traditional sake brewing’ including shochu and sake was inscribed on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list, and traditional Japanese koji-based brewing techniques are drawing worldwide attention. Riding this tailwind, we will proactively advance overseas as a leading Japanese shochu maker.
