About the Brewery

Asamai Sake Brewery was founded in 1917 (Taisho 6) in Asamai, Hiraka-cho, Akita Prefecture. Founder Munemitsu Kakizaki regretted that there was no tradition of sake brewing in his hometown, and established Asamai Sake Brewery Co., Ltd. with capital of 20,000 yen. In 1934 (Showa 9), it received the Excellence Award at the National Exhibition for four consecutive years and received high praise. The company was once forced to close down in 1943 during the war, but due to strong requests from the local community, permission was granted to reopen the following year, and sake production began again. In 1968, they began producing Akita prefecture's first special-grade pure rice sake, and in 2010, they won the Gold Award at the National New Sake Appraisal for using Akita Sake Komachi, a rice with reduced pesticides. In 2012, we won the Gold Award for Junmai Sake, and since then we have won the Gold Award 13 times. In 2016, Junmai Daiginjo won the highest award in the IWC sake category, and in 2020, Kura Master received the Platinum Award.
