About the Brewery
Yatsushika Sake Brewery was founded in 1864 (first year of the Genji era) as ``Funakuya'' by the first generation Mr. Azumae Aso. The history continues with the third generation, Mr. Kanpachi Aso, reviving the sake brewing rights that the second generation had given up at the age of 20. Mr. Kanpachi worked together with master brewer Mr. Shikataro Nakama to produce sake, which they named ``Ryumon'' after the famous local waterfall ``Ryumon Falls.'' This sake became popular and was eventually renamed ``Yashika''. Afterwards, the fourth generation, Mr. Masura, promoted Yoshika to become a famous sake, and the fifth generation, Mr. Taichi, introduced reinforced concrete warehouses and four-season brewing equipment, bringing innovation to sake brewing. Currently, new types of shochu such as ``Ginza no Suzume'' have been developed by the 6th generation owner, Mr. Masunao Aso, and are receiving high praise and being enjoyed by many shochu fans.
