About the Brewery
Permitted by the Ryukyu royal government, we are the oldest existing brewery in Okinawa—Shinzato Shuzo, founded in 1846 (Koka 3).
At that time the Ryukyu court allowed awamori-making only to 30 (later 40) people living in the three Shuri districts (Sakiyama, Akata, and Torihori), and the awamori produced there was treasured as tribute presented as far as China and Japan.
Recognized as one of them, Shinzato Shuzo has inherited the traditional skills and spirit for over 170 years. The seventh-generation head now carries on this banner.
