Shochu

About the Brewery

Matsushita Brewery is the oldest Kuma shochu brewery, founded in 1804 during the Edo period, and is located in Minakami Village, Kumamoto Prefecture. We have been making shochu for over 200 years in the blessed environment of the headwaters of the Kuma River, one of Japan's three major rapids. We maintain the tradition started by the first generation Mr. Jibei Yorozuya, and adhere to a meticulous manufacturing method that includes everything from rice cultivation to rice polishing to cold brewing. The representative brands ``Saikukura'' and ``Sakura no Sato'' are handmade masterpieces using people, water, and rice from Kuma. We are a brewery that values nature and passes on traditional techniques to future generations, keeping in mind the feelings of our predecessors who preserved and handed down ancient documents.
