About the Brewery
Watanabe Sake Brewery is a long-established sake brewery located in Furukawa-cho, Hida City, Gifu Prefecture. It was founded in 1732 by the first generation Mr. Kyuemon Watanabe as ``Kojoya,'' and in 1870, the fifth generation Mr. Akira Kyuemon began brewing sake. . Fascinated by the deliciousness of the sake he tasted during his trip to Kyoto, he began brewing locally named ``Hōrai'', and since then ``Hōrai'' has become a beloved brand rooted in the region.
Watanabe Sake Brewery takes advantage of Hida's harsh winter to make traditional cold sake, continues to pursue quality, and produces highly acclaimed sake that is loved by literary figures and artists alike. Currently, under the direction of the 9th generation Hisanori Watanabe and master brewer Koji Kitaba, we are working diligently to make sake that preserves tradition while making the most of the life of the rice.
