AnneWinery began with an encounter with an apple orchard in Komoro, Shinshu, which was on the verge of being cut down due to the lack of a successor. The couple moved from Saitama to Karuizawa, Nagano Prefecture in 2001, and while being soothed by the rich nature and warm community of Higashi-Shinshu, they decided they wanted to make their own wine. In 2015, they took over a field lined with magnificent apple trees in Komoro City and began making cider. We also started cultivating grapes on idle farmland, and in 2018 we opened AnneWinery, a renovated old folk house. In October 2023, we will reuse a former church facility in Karuizawa, where our family has ties, to open Karuizawa AnneWinery and begin the challenge of producing wine from Karuizawa as part of the Karuizawa Wine Project.
