About the Brewery
Yamato Winery, located in Katsunuma-cho, Koshu City, Yamanashi Prefecture, brews and sells wine that respects historical value. We manage rare varieties such as Japan's ancient Osaka purple grapes, Kyoto Juraku grapes, and Amakusa Takahama grapes, and we make unique wines such as producing wine from the 130-year-old Koshu grape ``Koryu''. Additionally, we continue to receive high rankings in the sparkling wine category at the Japan Wine Competition. The Hagiwara family had been running an oil wholesaler in Yamanashi City since the Edo period, and turned to vineyard management in the Meiji period. Founded in 1920, the company was incorporated as Yamato Wine Co., Ltd. in 1952, and currently operates the HUGGY WINE brand. We are focusing on making wine that is suited to Japan's food culture and climate.
