About the Brewery
KOTO Wine Morioka is a winery named after the initials of the former Kato district (Kurokawa, Otobe, Teshiromori, Ogao) in Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture. This area is a lush, hilly area that was once used as apple orchards and pastureland, but the abandoned farmland is now being brought back to life and revitalized through grape cultivation.
Grapes are grown using reduced amounts of pesticides in a sunny, well-ventilated hilly area. The grapes are carefully managed by hand from thaw to harvest, resulting in aromatic and easy-drinking wine. Some varieties use a fermentation method that uses carbon dioxide to achieve a gentle flavor with less bitterness. In addition, the temperature of sweet wines is carefully controlled to bring out the sweetness and aroma of the grapes to the maximum.
Furthermore, in collaboration with Medaka no Sono, a continuing employment support business, we are promoting initiatives to deepen local bonds as a bridge between agriculture and welfare. We are a community-based winery from Morioka that takes advantage of the local climate and provides wine that connects people and nature.
