About the Brewery
Kinoshita Sake Brewery has been producing sake for about 180 years since its founding in 1842. The 5th generation founder, Zenbei Kinoshita, started brewing sake using local rice and spring water, and currently the 11th generation, Zenbei Kinoshita, is the president. The sake name Tamagawa comes from the clear stream "Kawakami Tanigawa" next to the brewery, reflecting the beauty of the river, which has been considered sacred since ancient times. Chief brewer Akio Nakai has supported Tamagawa's quality for many years, and since 2007, British chief brewer Philip Harper has taken on a new challenge. Tamagawa's sake continues to develop new fan bases by incorporating unique natural preparations and manufacturing methods from the Edo period. The design has also been renewed, and the ``round ball mark'' created by Katsuke Sakane has become a familiar symbol.
