Tsugaru Plain is known as Japan's largest apple growing area, while Tsuruta Town boasts the largest production of Steuben grapes in Japan. Tsuruta Town is located at the same latitude as New York State, and Steuben has been actively cultivated for the past 50 years. Steuben is a hybrid variety of American and European varieties, and is characterized by its small size and black skin. Steuben grown in Tsuruta Town has a sugar content of over 20 degrees and is also registered as a GI. Mr. Yagihashi, the founder of the predecessor Wano Winery, founded the winery in 2017 with the aim of making Steuben wine known to as many people as possible. However, Mr. Yagihashi passed away in January 2023. The winemakers who carried on that will began a new craft wine production called "Tsugaru Winery." We produce "Jomon Miracle 2022" using Steuben wine, as well as craft wine using apple, peach, and sherry barrels. While continuing to make natural and new wines, we are focusing on spreading craft wine along with Tsugaru's traditional culture.
