Pinot Collina Matsugaoka is a winery nurtured by the history and nature of Haguro, Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture. This land was cultivated in 1871 by 3,000 samurai of the former Shonai clan, and has inherited a rich climate and tradition of fruit cultivation. In 2017, the vineyard was inspired by the hills of Langhe in Italy, and thanks to local support and miraculous timing, the first grapes were planted. Grape cultivation will proceed while facing nature, and 10,000 seedlings are scheduled to be planted by 2024. Winemaking in Matsugaoka incorporates industry-academia collaboration with Yamagata University and Tsuruoka National College of Technology, and pursues soil improvement and production techniques. Pinot Collina, which aims for circular agriculture and fosters a sustainable wine industry together with the region, communicates the charm of the land and contributes to the revitalization of the region. The unique wine produced here is shaping the future of Matsugaoka.
