Amami Shuryu is a joint bottling company established in 1965 by Kiyoshi Matsunaga, the founder of the Matsunaga Sake Brewery, through the cooperation of six breweries located in three towns in the Amami Islands. At that time, brown sugar shochu was not well known and there was almost no distribution outside of the prefecture, but they developed the unified brand ``Amami'' and worked to expand sales channels to markets outside the prefecture, mainly in the Kansai region, based in Amagasaki. Currently, we are producing a variety of brands including "Amami" by blending unprocessed sake made by five breweries: Kamezawa, Tenkawa, Takaoka, Nakamura, and Matsunaga. The company focuses on black koji preparation and atmospheric distillation, reducing the proportion of rice koji and increasing the proportion of brown sugar, in pursuit of a crisp, clean taste achieved through cooling and filtration. Brown sugar shochu is a special type of shochu that is only allowed to be produced in the Amami Islands, and has established itself as a symbol of local culture. The company continues to pour its passion into communicating the charms of brown sugar shochu and Amami.
