Founded in 1870 (Meiji 3), Iwagawa Brewery continues to strive every day to meet the needs of the times while preserving traditional manufacturing methods. The 3rd year of the Meiji era was just before Kagoshima transitioned from a feudal domain to a prefecture, and was a time when Western culture was rapidly being adopted into Japan. Shochu production began in Osumi as people came into contact with the wave of civilization and enlightenment and enjoyed a new era. Inheriting that spirit and romance to the present day, we continue to carefully produce authentic shochu in Iwagawa, Osumi-cho, Soo City, Kagoshima Prefecture.
