Reopened in 1878, our brewery began making shochu in Hitoyoshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture, on the banks of the clear Kuma River, one of Japan's three major rapids. Using high-quality water from the Kuma River system, we continue to preserve tradition while evolving our manufacturing methods over our 140-year history. The current manufacturing method was established over the 12 years since Masami Yoshiyuki, a modern master craftsman and recipient of the Medal with Yellow Ribbon, was hired as the chief brewer. This technique has been passed down as the royal method of making shochu. In 1926, it won the Honorary Grand Prize at the First National Liquor Competition, and in 1931, it was chosen to be presented to Emperor Showa and received a letter of appreciation. While respecting tradition, we also focus on product development that incorporates innovation to meet the needs of the times. It suppresses the bitterness and harshness characteristic of shochu, creating a gentle and easy-to-drink taste. Our goal is to produce sake that is handcrafted at an affordable price and that impresses many people. Shochu with the slogan, ``You'll know how delicious it is when you drink it'' is loved by a wide range of people.
