Asahi Sake Brewery was founded in 1916 as ``Kitei Koji Shoten'' by the first Mr. Koji Kirei, and has been producing shochu for over 100 years on Kikaijima, the easternmost tip of the Amami Islands. The company name and representative brand "Asahi" were chosen from the fact that Kikaijima is the first place in Japan to worship the morning sun, and from the wish that the company's fortunes would be entrusted to the rising sun. The company has obtained organic JAS certification and practices ``manufacturing'' that includes everything from organic cultivation of sugarcane to production of brown sugar and shochu. While protecting Kikaijima's natural environment, we are promoting the island's charm both domestically and internationally through brown sugar shochu. We also carry out activities rooted in the community, such as brewery tours, sugarcane harvesting, and brown sugar making experiences. After overcoming the difficulties of completely destroying the factory during and after the war, the company changed its name to Asahi Sake Brewery in 1960. We have continued to develop with the support of the local community, and in 2016 we celebrated our 100th anniversary. We will continue to focus on Kikaijima, pursue the production of safe and secure products, and continue to take on the challenges of the next 100 years.
