Yamanashi Meijo was founded in 1835, when the first brewer, Mr. Ihei Nakaya, branched out from the Kitahara family in Takato, Shinshu, and began brewing sake in Daigahara, Koshu Kaido. The sake name ``Shichiken'' comes from the transom of the ``Seven Wise Men of the Bamboo Forest'', which was given to the fifth generation by Naito Suruga no Kami, and the name has been preserved through generations of tradition. In 1925, the sixth generation brewer had the honor of providing the main building as the residence of Emperor Meiji, and the building has since been designated as a national historic site. In the Showa era, the company was incorporated and the 10th generation actively managed the business and focused on improving quality. In 1999, the company transitioned to all its products from specially designated sake, and began brewing sake using locally produced rice in cooperation with local farmers. In 2014, we introduced new equipment and promoted a brand strategy, completely renewing the "Shichiken" series. Furthermore, the Densouzo will open in 2021, and artworks and materials handed down by the Kitahara family will be on display. In 2024, under the new brewing system, Mr. Tsushima Kitahara will take on the challenge of further innovation in sake brewing.
